1. HIGHEST RANK IN INDIAN NAVY

Admiral of the Fleet or Fleet Admiral knew as “Admiral of Navy” or “Grand Admiral”, is an honorary five-star rank and is the highest rank in the Indian Navy. In many nations, also in the Indian navy, the rank is reserved for wartime or ceremonial appointments. No officer of the Indian Navy has yet been assigned with this rank.

2. Admiral

The Admiral is known as The Chief of the Naval Staff (Admiral) & is the commander and the highest-ranking officer in the Indian Navy.

3. Vice Admiral

Vice Admiral is a senior officer rank which is senior to a rear admiral and junior to an admiral. The Vice Chief of the Naval Staff is second in command of the Indian Navy and is a Three-star Officer.

4. Rear Admiral

Rear Admiral is the lowest of the “admiral” ranks, sometimes referred to as “flag officers” or “flag ranks”. It is a rank below vice admiral, and above a Commodore. In Indian Navy Rear Admiral is a senior and a two-star rank officer. Rear Admiral rank is equivalent to “Major general” in Indian army and “Air Vice Marshal” in Indian Airforce.

5. Commodore

Traditionally, “commodore” is the title given to any officer who assigned to command more than one ship at a time. A commodore typically commands a squadron or flotilla of ships, as part of a larger task force commanded by an admiral. Commodore rank in Indian Navy is equivalent to “Brigadier” in Indian Army and “Air Commodore” in Indian Airforce. In Indian Navy Ranks Commodore is, superior to captain, but below a rear admiral.

6. Captain

Captain rank in Indian Navy Ranks is equivalent to “Colonel” in Indian Army and “Group Captain” in Indian Airforce. A navy officer who commands a ship is called by naval custom as “captain”. Captain rank is one rank senior to Commander and one rank junior to Commodore.

7. Commander

Commander is a term used for an officer commanding any armed force unit. Commander is one Rank senior to Lieutenant Commander. It is a common rank in both Navy and Airforce. This is equivalent to “Lieutenant Colonel” in Indian Army and “wing commander” in Airforce.

8. Lieutenant Commander

Lieutenant Commander rank is superior to a lieutenant and subordinate to a commander. Lieutenant commander is a commanding officer of a small ship or installations. It is a commissioned officer rank in Indian Navy. Lieutenant Commander rank is equivalent rank to “Major” in Indian Army and “Squadron leader” in Indian Air force.

9. Lieutenant

It is a commissioned officer rank in Indian Navy. Lieutenant is one rank senior to sub-lieutenant. Lieutenant rank in Indian navy is equivalent to “Captain” rank in Indian Army and “Flight Lieutenant” in Indian Air force.

10. Sub Lieutenant

Sub-lieutenant is the lowest commissioned officers rank in Indian Navy. It is the first-rank given to the candidate who has successfully completed the prescribed training of the Indian Navy.
